Morning All - from Chicago

42:49
Thank you to everyone for joining us after days of sitting in front of your screen for ASAE's Annual Meeting! I know...

43:23
A 3 day, full day virtual meeting was interesting

44:19
Interesting is a word...

45:24
Proud to have participated on the career panel a couple of times at the Queens Dress for Success. I never realized the depth of support offered to so many. Wonderful

45:38
We could probably have a complete discussion just about the ASAE experience. But looking forward to this discussion first = )

45:39
That's great Diane

46:09
If you hit SPEAKER view, the speaker will be spotlighted

46:33
We ALL wanted to be in Vegas this week for ASAE. :-)

47:02
Very true, Karin.

48:00
Hello from a native Long Islander (East Islip) now living in Maryland.

49:29
we've come so far so fast technologically but always coping with glitches. But as assn execs, we know how to pivot with grace!

50:55
Bobby, this is when the host does a quick soft shoe for us?

51:25
It sounds like Gary's mic is damaged or broken.

51:26
Headsets are always best

51:58
Gary, try to unplug the mic and just use the laptop mic?

52:37
I called in twice and you couldn't hear me

55:17
Since the speakers are having a bit of trouble with tech, can you all please Stop Video. Thanks.

55:44
Done!

59:14
"Don't go too far away from your mission..." TRUE!

59:35
Joi - what a wonderful organization!

59:54
Love Dress for Success. So important. Thanks, Joi!

01:01:43
Wow, that is tremendous! Congrats DFS!

01:02:16
Joi, such important work!

01:03:13
That's great advice. Don't stray from your mission. A real innovation lesson for any time.

01:04:16
Keeping true to mission also keeps sponsor dollars flowing as that delivers solid value to them, too.

01:04:46
Agree with you Scott. Virtual has mended some not so great relationships at my office. Grown better working relationships.

01:05:43
True Scott - My Team and I have never worked so much and so hard. We've started adding Team coffee breaks where we talkabout anything but work.

01:06:53
welcome back Gary! perfect example of pivoting with technology

01:06:54
That is very true, Scott. People are feeling overwhelmed by the demands of zoom meetings and the perceived need to be constantly connected. Top leaders have a challenge to instill a culture of balance to avoid burnout in their organizations.

01:07:22
You can always rely on iPhone. Tip: Download Zoom on your phone.

01:07:54
We are a small staff, and were understaffed before the pandemic. So we are more than ever "doing more with less". It is exhausting

01:08:19
I've also downloaded the Microsoft Teams app on my phone

01:12:04
The results are in: with 80% of attendees voting, the majority feel that meetings will return by January 2022, with September 2021 a close second. What that says - we won't be meeting in person in a long time

01:16:47
I agree Joi. We used to do one annual meeting and then a periodic webinar with our members pre-covid. We are now doing zoom calls/meetings every other week - 2:00 pm every other Thursday. That connection with us and to each other has reinforced our value many times over.

01:19:59
What a great experience Joi!

01:23:58
the results are in, hybrid seems to be here to stay

01:24:01
We have huge success with the development of online, self-paced courses. People are tired of sitting in a Zoom discussion, but are happy to work through content important to them on their own. We have made more than $265,000 in just four months from this, which is replacing revenue we lost from our convention.

01:25:34
Lori, that is fantastic. I have seen a few organizations successfully adopt that kind of model. Were you doing this Pre-COVID or is this a new strategy?

01:25:51
Our firm's theme for 2020 (at the start of the year, not since covid) has been a Nelson Mandela quote : "It always seems impossible until it's done". People like Joi have used their creativity to prove this is true!

01:26:28
We did lots of webinars before COVID, but putting the content into online courses was new for us.

01:27:40
Agreed, Diane. Lori, that is great! Good example of quick reaction and ability to pivot. Kuddos!

01:29:09
NYSAE already made this decision Scott. Good conversation.

01:29:36
We're going to start with charging guests....

01:32:43
We created a hardship policy (should have had one before but this made us create one). It wasn't COVID unique but will be part of our policies going forward. -

01:32:49
Valerie, we see "some" people talking about that in Facebook groups. That always worries the leadership, but in actuality its not a lot of people asking. I think communication can also be 1:1 with those who are asking...

01:33:02
if anyone has any questions, please send them over to me to share with the panelists

01:39:47
Poll should offer option "We haven't made cuts in staffing"...

01:40:08
I agree - we didn't cut staff either so I didn't reply

01:40:46
text alerts giving link to resource you know that members value; if you are strategic with texting it's very well received

01:41:41
We didn't purposely make cuts. We just happened to be down a few positions and were hiring at the time of the shut down. So we simply haven't hired, yet. But do hope to, but probably not until 2021.

01:42:09
same here - down two and not rehiring.

01:46:18
@Karin, Exactly. Although we are really feeling the hit of the loss of staff (as a staff of only 8 to begin with, that's a quarter of our team missing. I really want to rehire but hiring via Zoom is a whole new way of working that I haven't yet had a chance to master.

01:46:53
Since COVID, we've hired and it was a great hire. She hasn't stepped foot in the office, but it worked fine!

01:47:14
Yes, would love any advice on hiring via Zoom!

01:48:57
We hired our last employee via Zoom as well. Worked well as we got to see how they handle themselves via a Zoom meeting, how they understood the tech, and how they prepared for that (i.e. reaching out to test in advance, etc.)

01:49:13
Question: Many volunteer board members, including officers, are losing their own jobs. Many no longer making time for the organization. This puts more responsibility on you and your staff to drive the activity and make decisions you’ve never made before on your own. You’re concerned about employee burnout. How are people handling?

01:51:51
I feel like the hiring via Zoom may be okay, but then the training process. So much of our training was what I simply called "osmosis" by being with our small staff, very collaborative team. I haven't figured out how to replicate that yet (actually not going to replicate, but clearly do need to create a new way to ensure the onboarding is successful)

01:52:37
I have to run. Thank you everyone!

01:54:38
Yes, Scott! That's our strategy!

01:58:56
Thanks for stimulating conversation and especially appreciate your welcoming out-of-towners! Gotta bounce but hope to see you again soon.

02:00:24
Thank you for opening this to all, and for promoting it in Communities! Only blocked an hour so need to run.

02:00:34
This has been an awesome opportunity with wonderful engagement. I’m grateful for having been asked to participate. I’m available to continue any aspect of todays conversation and welcome the opportunity to engage with anyone here. sstuart@turnaround.org
