Take Time for Yourself: Mental Health Checks for these Strange Days - Shared screen with speaker view
If you have any questions, please make sure to add them here. Thanks!
As someone who has written and spoken frequently about wellness, a few keys--get out in nature, practice deep breathing, eat healthy.
I personally feel more stressed about politics than the pandemic!
Definitely agree with that, Harry!
Were those really chocolate chips, Bob?
I’m doing just fine, but I worry about the world we’ll be in after so many jobs are lost, businesses closed etc. But I keep focused on thinking that this too shall pass, and priorities might shift to actually have a better world.
Maybe now it's time to exhale, Dave.
How does a humorist keep up their humour?
I’m not crazy about Zoom ( Dave :) , but it has given me the opportunity to connect with SATW and TMAC members ‘in person’ more than in the past.
LOVE Schitt’s Creek. Will watch it again.
Why don't they have more episodes of Mozart in the Jungle?
I think we all know things we can do and should do for mental wellness, but any advice for getting back on the horse when we fall off?
I want a referral to Bob’s doctor
They did that show here just north of Toronto near Orangeville.
I went through Schitt's Creek in two weeks. Can't wait for season six to drop on Netflix in October. Another funny show--and I think it's really important to watch funny stuff--is Derry Girls.
Laura Del Rosso
Call My Agent on Netflix. It's hilarious and fun.
Time to watch my show, Outta Town Adventures, on Amazon Prime ;-)
Space Force with Steve Carell, too - highly recommend
Send in your questions everyone.
(repeat) I think we all know things we can do and should do for mental wellness, but any advice for getting back on the horse when we fall off?
Is anyone taking any online courses to learn about a side interest?
Love Dave Barry! Also love these show recommendations. I've been hooked on Chef (Jon Favreau's Netflix series) and most recently, Love in the Time of Corona on Freeform. Online courses for relaxation: I've taken a few flower-arranging classes.
How about fitness? I am doing Pilates classes most days.
I got a certificate in world healing techniques, am taking one about indigenous culture in Canada, etc.
There's always one- I don't really watch tv even now.
Grand Ole Opry star Little Jimmy Dickens used to joke that if he had to bend down to pick up someting off the floor he took the time to see whether there was anything else to do while there.
Funny, tom, thanks
Dave, Kim and anyone else who has sent a kid off to college this fall... any tips for feeling upbeat about how the semester might unfold?
Language classes, my travel writer friends. I finished Duolingo's Italian course over two months. A great daily distraction/habit and useful, too.
sorry, must run. Loved seeing everyone! Stay safe and well!
Thank you all!
I'm taking Pilates twice a week via Zoom and also Vedanta philosophy classes. I see this "pause" as an opportunity to tackle projects that I've been putting off for years.
I’m doing two hours of online exercises classes every Tuesday and Thursday. Also subbing on a women’s golf league most Mondays — it’s great to get outside! One pandemic benefit early on, purging piles untouched for decades: I found 50-year-old love letters from boyfriends I barely remember, including one who went off to Vietnam..
To Dave: how would you have handled being a college student stuck at home during the pandemic?
Very cool, Sue Pollack
The Peloton app is great even if you don’t use the bike. Yoga, stretch, weights, etc
Does anyone have a good pilates site?
Yes, Body Harmonics. email firstname.lastname@example.org
How do you feel about sending young kids to school now
Or contact me and I'll tell you about it. Many classes.
Yes - More (Pilates) with Mor on Facebook is great! and Mindful Movement with Mor
Jane Wooldridge, she’s in Miami!
I’m renewing my acquaintance with wineries, berry farms and other farm stands throughout the Fraser Valley. Great material for my columns. Hearing a lot of “Hey, I haven’t been there in years! Time to return” One column just out is about a Lower Mainland Raptor Rescue Centre. Great for families - and da boids can do with da cash!
I feel an urge to encourage people these days. That’s why the closing on my correspondence is this: “Stay healthy, be safe and drink only good liquor.” (I’ve officially bought my last bottle of mediocre booze.)
Feline fan here! Dogs- not so much. Two strikes against me - no dogs and no tv.
More great advice, Tom
Sarah - You should tell everyone about your Instagram fashion parades!
Jane: But all I wear now is running clothes! not QUITE as interesting!
Ah but you still dress up for the hallways!
Im still writing a monthly travel feature, which is challenging since most people arent traveling. takes about 3 times as long as usual.
Agreed, Elizabeth Hansen. I’m writing a bit, and connecting with sources is challenging.
