Hi all! Welcome

15:55
I have no sound. Is it just me?

15:56
Hi!

17:24
Must be. I have sound.

Is there a link available to that video that I can share with my colleagues, board, etc.?

31:26
very moving film - thank you for showing it - I appreciate this session

33:01
I noticed that too. Grew up in Los Angeles and thought things were pretty good, but wow did racism flair up after 2008. We have a lot of really racist people who came out of the woodwork. I wish we could educate them or help them learn to get along with all people.

34:59
Isn’t it sad that the remarkable Barack Obama actually made things worse by rising to the presidency with every possible attribute. It’s so discouraging. I was naive enough to think the opposite would have been true.

36:27
What gets measured gets monetized.

38:38
Barack Obama did not make it worse, it was the backlash. Anytime these petroleum empire types see the ordinary people happy, they have to destroy it. It’s just how their minds work.

39:14
maybe the Tea Party - financed by billionaires - stirred up the racist backlash

41:43
I didn’t mean him personally. I meant his very presence brought out the worst in America, unfortunately.

42:08
Christine - I had a similar experience. Remember how happy we were? Plus, I felt blessed every day President Obama was in office. Remembering still keeps me going.

45:07
Would you say that the book “White Fragility” is a good resource to better understand the complexities of racism? Or is there another suggestion?

45:17
I’m with you on that. It can happen again. I believe it can—but I think we’re going to go through hell first around the election.

47:01
One time on an SATW trip, my husband and I set of on our own post-trip to find his ancestors. Our host said: “I hope you like what you find.” Absolutely, we need to take the bad with the good of what history offers.

48:26
we’re living in historic times and we could come out of this better people, so let’s pray as we do it, the world becomes better too

50:13
One of many takeaways already: “When you know better, do better.”

51:24
Hey Tom - you are a steady beacon of democracy on Facebook, always happy to read your posts.

52:35
or at least a shining beacon of liberal thought

53:29
Great idea. Updating the OWAA RFP now…

01:01:16
Hi all, as an FYI - the video from earlier is now in the Attendify description in the schedule. You can find it here, too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqfUrMMIa0U&feature=youtu.be

01:02:47
Do we have the right to promote that video, for example, on our social media?

01:08:59
Thank you Melvin and Julie for all your outstanding leadership - and for sharing a little bit of that with us!

01:10:44
Julie I met you several years ago in Philadelphia on a meetings oriented press trip and I was impressed with you then, as now. Elegant, eloquent, straightforward, fashionable and fun—San Diego is very lucky to have you.

01:13:15
Just want to tell you that I think you are doing a terrific job as a moderator asking insightful and hard questions with great sensitivity. That is hard for a white person to do. Shows you've done your homework. Thank you.

01:13:26
