I noticed that too. Grew up in Los Angeles and thought things were pretty good, but wow did racism flair up after 2008. We have a lot of really racist people who came out of the woodwork. I wish we could educate them or help them learn to get along with all people.

Isn’t it sad that the remarkable Barack Obama actually made things worse by rising to the presidency with every possible attribute. It’s so discouraging. I was naive enough to think the opposite would have been true.

What gets measured gets monetized.

Barack Obama did not make it worse, it was the backlash. Anytime these petroleum empire types see the ordinary people happy, they have to destroy it. It’s just how their minds work.

maybe the Tea Party - financed by billionaires - stirred up the racist backlash

I didn’t mean him personally. I meant his very presence brought out the worst in America, unfortunately.

Christine - I had a similar experience. Remember how happy we were? Plus, I felt blessed every day President Obama was in office. Remembering still keeps me going.

Would you say that the book “White Fragility” is a good resource to better understand the complexities of racism? Or is there another suggestion?

I’m with you on that. It can happen again. I believe it can—but I think we’re going to go through hell first around the election.

One time on an SATW trip, my husband and I set of on our own post-trip to find his ancestors. Our host said: “I hope you like what you find.” Absolutely, we need to take the bad with the good of what history offers.

we’re living in historic times and we could come out of this better people, so let’s pray as we do it, the world becomes better too
