Hybrid is so very expensive to do.

Expensive and can be more work.

I think you turn off the people who attend in person and expect to see certain people or a certain feeling of a lot of people. It is like going to a poorly attended party without the cool kids.

We're concerned with making the in-person content worthwhile along side having to produce a robust virtual conference

Trade show floor and F&B seem to still be major sticking points for the in-person events so far.

People are so desperate to network and you rob them of that larger experience with a hybrid.

I certainly hope it is a band aid - face to face is so important. 2021 is the year of the Hybrid meeting for sure....

I agree, Caitlin. It just feels like second-best. But I do think it's what many of our members will expect for the future.

The hardest thing to figure out is will people feel safe to travel when the meeting happens

So many of our big exhibitors have said that their people can't travel until at least second quarter of 2021 and maybe longer.

Also with the American Thoracic Society - we're using our local chapters and testing the temperature regionally since it varies so much

From a booking standpoint, there is certainly more being booked in 2023+

Our big conference (13,000 attendees) is in February. We are completely virtual for 2021, but have high hopes for a hybrid in 2022.

We are talking about having an Among Us! game night to get people more engaged.

There are currently trade association in NYC that are researching afternoon cocktail events for 25 - 50 people (rooftop) with speaker in closed hotels.

We are putting on several virtual events with 8 or 9 other affiliates like ourselves. (I"m from Texas.)

They are from all over the country and Canada and it's working very well.

It takes a lot more work to coordinate, but is well worth it. We are even partnering with Illinois for our big convention.

Slack is a good platform to use as a virtual headquarters to share real time content, info and engagement.

The more collaboration the better.....more resources and marketing dollars

The second wave is real, and hitting harder than the first wave (in Europe at least, where ICU’s are almost full). Belgium about to go back into a second lockdown. We are hopeful for a reopening part two of 2021. In the mean time the CVB focuses on informing and supporting - our clients but also our suppliers. Tough times for everyone.

my answer to what is coming up is we NEED rapid testings for all public venues, airport, hotels to restart the industry

Optimistic for 2021.

The hotels want you to meet - even if in a smaller format. We have to start small and work our way back.

if we get rapid testing readily available to us ( at a very low cost) and train our security staff and can hire more staff ( many people need jobs right noe) to do that- we could look at events of 500-1000 pax in Europe, the US and Asia...

Unfortunately, some hotels and even convention centers are not even opening until after Q2 2021 and others will closely evaluate every group to determine if profitable to take the business. They cannot affordable to lose any more money, though they want to get meetings back started the owners may not allow.
