01:15:19
We will be all virtual with interviews again this year too, dates will be in September and October

01:16:30
Sorry - I have to get off. If anyone is interested in Columbia or would like to know more- feel free to email me. ks23@columbia.edu We are doing only virtual interviews again this year.

01:16:57
thank you!

01:17:11
Like Dr. Holland Hall said, the APPD has strongly recommended virtual interviews, and most institutions are following that recommendation. Indiana interviews will be virtual.

01:18:49
tips for virtual interviews: 1) be yourself! 2)think of some questions in advance that you'll ask all programs so you can compare programs 3)as Tornia said, get your materials in early so the programs can review them and contact you about interview dates early (I think we can see them end of July this year, actually) 4)get a good night sleep the night before 5)don't be nervous, we're not scary. =)

01:20:10
I agree - be yourself. from my personal experience as a fellow talking with the applicants - talking with the fellows (in my opinion) is not an interview, it is just a time to get to know you!

01:21:00
What do you all think the future of inpatient/consult adolescent medicine is? I would love to find a program that has inpatient work as well and have seen a lot of adolescent care going to hospitalists recently. I’d love to work both consult and clinic/community health one day! Thanks.

01:21:25
SUNY Downstate (Brooklyn) Program Director Amy Suss amy.suss@downstate.edu

01:21:28
I think many of our programs do a lot of inpatient work, primary team and consults

01:21:42
University of Rochester contact information:

01:22:07
University of Rochester contact information: Shellie Yussman susan_yussman@urmc.rochester.edu

01:23:13
There are a lot of programs with inpatient/consult services. If they don't have a true inpatient, then many will have an active consult service. Most are subspecialty services if they have it (admitting pelvic inflammatory disease, heavy menstrual bleeding/anemia, and malnutrition from eating disorder)

01:23:34
Jake, you will find a lot of variability among programs, so this is a great question for individual programs. Some do only consultative inpatient care, others (like us) continue to maintain an inpatient service. Agree this is evolving rapidly!

01:23:51
there are some inpatient services (i'm not quite sure which ones) - that do admit all of their own primary care patients in addition to those I mentioned above

01:24:17
Yes, I think most programs have both inpatient and outpatient clinical training. We have a busy inpatient adolescent medicine consult service

01:24:41
For the interviews - enjoy the opportunity to meet like minded people who love adolescents! We are a small field, and, as a program directors, we enjoy getting to meet people who are interested in adolescent medicine. Even if our program is not the best fit for you, we appreciate the opportunity to meet the next generation of adolescent medicine docs.

01:25:34
So, true, Mary. We'll all see you again at SAHM!

01:26:50
Agree! We are a small world and we are happy to know you are interested in adolescent medicine, no matter where you train! I have even encouraged applicants/interviewees to make sure they consider other programs that I feel would be a great fit for them! We all want you to find the perfect fit to meet your needs.

01:27:48
Right, it is such a small adolescent medicine world so have fun during interviews having conversations with all of your future colleagues.

01:28:09
and a plug for the NASPAG Adol Med Interest Group. Cindy and I lead that and would happily have you join any virtual sessions we have this year. NASPAG is the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. Email either of us to get on our mailings.

01:28:10
For the residents - if anyone would like to stay a little later than 7pm - I am happy to stay on a little extra and answer any questions you may have (at least to the best of my ability)

01:29:26
Agree with Sarah - SAHM is an awesome professional home, but AAP and NASPAG offer great opportunities as well!

01:30:04
Have to run to another meeting (workday is still not over here on the west coast!) but would love to connect with anyone who has questions about Seattle Children’s ! Thanks, all! sarah.golub@seattlechildrens.org

01:30:27
