Hello Everyone!
MARYANN DESANTIS

Thank you!
Toby Saltzman
31:31
Thank you Cheryl, Rebecca and Yulia for organizing this. Cheers to you!

Hi all, please keep yourself on mute
Rebecca Bingham
33:44
Cheryl Andrews planned to be here. She is in the process of moving in. Electricians arrived and cut her power off. I'm happy to fill in today.
Margie Goldsmith
33:51
Is the speaker going to stay this small? I have huge letters in the majority of my screen?
Melissa McGibbon
34:19
Margie, you can change the view in the upper right corner
Rebecca Bingham
34:21
Margie, you can grab the "slider" to scoot the display smaller.
Terri Colby
37:50
Does she consider herself primarily a photographer or writer?
Evelyn Kanter
39:39
What is process to obtain additional Insta accounts beyond your main one.
Jody Halsted
41:03
Evelyn - you need a different email address for each account. I have 3- it is very easy to set up. If you open your current IG account open settings- the little gear- and there is an option to add an account.
Susan Breslow
41:47
Is there a way to merge two accounts?
Claudia Carbone
42:17
explain difference between build an audience and grow a community?
Jody Halsted
42:54
Susan - not that I am aware of. You can invite followers from the account you wan to 'let go' to follow the other. And in that bio mention that you are now posting at the other account.
Melissa McGibbon
43:19
You can merge two accounts but you can't keep followers from both.
Rebecca Bingham
44:30
Claudia: Basically, building an audience is focused on numbers and is usually transactional; building a community is based on mutuality and is relational.
Margie Goldsmith
49:21
Yes but what about NOW with COVID making travel restricted?
Susan Portnoy
51:57
Someone can post consistently but not be seen due to platform algorithms? How do you address that?
Terri Colby
52:49
What is the minimum number of posts considered useful on Instagram.
Judi Cohen
52:53
‘Great question Susan! The algorithms are changing second to second.
April Orcutt
53:31
Yulia, excellent presentation so far. I would also be interested in your practical webinar later. Thanks.
JetSet Sarah
54:27
I’ve been posting about my past Caribbean travels during COVID and have grown my Insta audience by 20 percent. Yulia is right; having a well-defined brand and posting consistently is KEY! https://www.instagram.com/jetsetsarah/
Rebecca Bingham
54:29
Consistency is key. Over time, it delivers like compound interest with money.
Susan Portnoy
54:49
Consistency is affected by algorithms. People may or may not see your consistent posts which is as if you’re not posting consistently.
Kwin Mosby
55:31
What are the pros and cons to Instagram ad promotion? Are there best practices?
Courtney Drake-McDonough
56:24
Instagram and Pinterest have been game changers for me. As food and travel writers, they are so visually-focused.
Rebecca Bingham

Would love to hear more about the decision making for Stories vs. Feed.
Debra Smith
59:27
Are lighter palettes always the way to go? I post photos with more contrast and darker tones generally
JetSet Sarah
59:45
Would you recommend establishing a Creator account instead of a personal account? How does this affect your engagement?
Brian Major
01:00:31
What is the value of stories versus regular posts?
Evelyn Kanter
01:00:36
Second Megan’s request to hear more about Stories vs. Feed.
Marla Cimini
01:04:25
Do you use a scheduling tool for IG? And / or do you recommend one in particular?
Susan Portnoy
01:07:19
How did you organize a takeover with Lonely Planet or other large brand?
Linda Fasteson
01:07:23
What is a takeover?
Toby Saltzman
01:07:32
How do you do a shout out on Instagram?
Yvette Cardozo
01:07:58
How do you tell when people are most active...is it specific to your audience or more general?
Rebecca Bingham
01:09:14
Toby, a Shoutout is like "tagging" on Facebook. It's a mention.
Courtney Drake-McDonough
01:09:33
How do you create the artwork for the icons on Highlights? Curious what others are using.
Melissa McGibbon
01:09:39
Yvette, see this post about times of day for posting. https://sproutsocial.com/insights/best-times-to-post-on-social-media/
Megan Padillas she/her
01:09:56
I know what a Story is and I use them. But I don’t know how to identify what makes a Story vs. what to share in Feed. It feels like a muscle I don’t have well developed.
Tonya Fitzpatrick World Footprints
01:10:29
Reels is Instagram’s version of TikTok
Evelyn Kanter
01:10:35
Where do you find “reels” to post and promote.
Doreen Pendgracs
01:11:12
Learning how to use the IG tools would be a great subject for f/u webinar.
Megan Padillas she/her
01:11:27
Is uploading a short video (less than a minute) automatically a Reel, or is there a special upload tool?
Evelyn Kanter
01:12:18
So if reels are uploaded through stories, do reels also disappear in 24 hours like stories?
Tamara Gruber
01:12:29
Courtney, I use Canva to make the Highlight covers for IG stories. Once you have a template it is easy to swap out the icon
Rebecca Bingham
01:13:43
I second the use of Canva.
Tamara Gruber
01:13:58
Yvette, if you go to the hamburger menu in the upper right of your profile tab and choose insights, then tap followers, it will bring you to the screen that shows info about your followers. Scroll down to see active times.
Tamara Gruber
01:17:27
For Stories vs Feed, I use feed for that great on-brand photo that I think is compelling enough to make people stop scrolling — plus using a caption that will get engagement (saves, comments especially). For Stories, it is more the small scenes from my travels that give more detail from the destination but wouldn’t be the stuff that would “do well” in my feed (food, shops, street photography, personal reactions…). I also try to mix up stories to be some with polls, some short video or boomerang, etc.
Doreen Pendgracs
01:17:38
I’d like to know more about switching from personal to professional account on IG as I don’t see the Insights feature Tamara is taking about on my personal account.
Evelyn Kanter
01:18:47
Can you go back to feed-posted videos and repost as reels?
Tamara Gruber
01:19:20
Ah, good point. Some of these features you need a business or creator account. It is a very simple switch but the question is whether or not IG throttles reach more from businesses and creators versus personal accounts. For me it is important to have a professional account to have the analytics to show brands and to get the swipe up feature to links in IG stories (for accounts over 10K)
Susan Portnoy
01:20:05
How did you calculate that number?
Doreen Pendgracs
01:20:25
Thx for clarification, Tamara. I don’t have 10K followers yet.
Megan Padillas she/her
01:20:27
Are Insights only available to 10,000k plus accounts? I don’t see it in either personal or business account.
Courtney Drake-McDonough
01:20:36
@susanportnoy, she could do it through Insights.
Doreen Pendgracs
01:21:49
Very useful presentation. I would truly appreciate the more practical approach in a future webinar.
Laurie Gossy
01:22:00

I've read so many times that Instagram gains rights to use, even sell, any photo posted on Instagram. What are your thoughts about that?
Gwen Pratesi
01:22:45
Thank you. This has been very helpful and I would be interested in seeing future webinars.
Judi Cohen
01:22:49

Is there any benefit to editing current content (deleting etc.) and adding hashtags?
Claudia Carbone
01:24:17
how many hashtags should you include with your post?
Mary Chong
01:24:20
Interesting insight - “Instagram is the Linked-in of the travel industry”. I never thought about it this way and it makes total sense. This changes my view of the platform - Thank you!
Mary Peachin
01:24:34
Can you use video or rotating photos?
Melissa McGibbon
01:24:45
Question: I kind of hate it when destinations ask for my Insta followers number as I don't claim to be an influencer. I recently made my profile private because I don't want destinations to get hung up on my low (~1,500) followers. Should I make it public again?
Megan Padillas she/her
01:25:14
Great question Melissa
Amy Sherman
01:25:16
DO you use a tool to search for hashtags?
Tamara Gruber
01:25:20
Hilary - I wouldn’t go back and add hashtags to old posts. Unless it is a rarely used hashtag it won’t show up as posts show up in hashtag searches based on when the photo was published.
Susan Portnoy
01:25:25
Preview is a great way to see how your photos will look on your feed before you post
Marla Cimini
01:25:49
I second the Qs from Claudia & Hilary above!!
Alison DaRosa
01:26:01
Thanks very much for advice, help - and inspiration. I hope you’ll do another session for those of us who need to learn more of the basics…
Barbara Marrett
01:26:29
A lot of destinations are more interested in quality than quantity, engagement than numbers.
Hilary Nangle
01:26:52

Does it give a post a boost to add part of the 30 hashtags AFTER it's already been live for a while (hour, day, etc.)? Has anyone found it helps a post resurface later?

When researching Hashtags, click on "Recent" versus "Top." Then look at who is following/using those because that means they are like-minded. Then follow them!
