Developing

We review our strategic plan formally every 3 years. We update our business plan every year - developed by staff and approved by the board. The business plan is developed along with the annual budget.

That's what we hope to do Christine, keep an SPC empaneled to track / review progress and make changes.. definitely a best practice.

Term limits are important.

Even though unrelated to the topic, hearing the board didn’t want a facilitator made me instantly think of the Hydrolevel case. Lol.

We have term limits for president. only. 2 years and out. May want to consider for all.

Our SP did not want a facilitator. The Board actually insisted on facilitator.

In addition to term limits, it is important to define succession planning.

The governance committee offers the chair political cover to handle toxic or ineffective board members.

Legal review for bylaws is critical since associations have to comply with rules in their incorporation state... can avoid some bad missteps.

During BoD orientation, we make it clear that it's critical for people to be on the same page OUT of the Board room. We can disagree inside, but once we reach consensus, everyone is supportive OUTSIDE of the Board room
