Hi, folks. I’ll have to split at 12:30 pm for an SATW/ACA meeting but will enjoy this event as long as I can.

28:59
I’ve was taught never to begin a story with a quote. Not true?

The URL for help a reporter out is helpareporter.com.

32:33
ProfNet is profnet.com which will take you to the Cision ProfNet site.

33:21
Claudia, I think the strength of the quote dictates the deviation from that rule.

33:47
Wearing a "Press Hat" is a superpower!

35:07
I have been the Uber driver interviewing them.

36:21
I've never thought of interviewing my taxi driver! Though I do always quiz them on the best pizza locations, like 100% of the time. Clearly my stomach sets my priorities.

36:23
I disagree. Uber drivers contain a WEALTH of story ideas!

36:40
My interview with a taxi driver in the Cayman Islands became the story. She had driven Tom Cruise around for filming of The Firm, and wherever we went she introduced me as a Canadian Journalist from the British Commonwealth, which prompted a growing entourage as we toured the island.

37:21
Chris’ comment about being bold as an interviewer makes me recall a feature opportunity years ago when Elvis Presley was coming to Dayton, Ohio, for a concert. My assignment was to call maternity nurses to ask whether any dedicated fans had named their newborns “Elvis” that day. It was awkward at first but fun as it went along.

38:35
My Ireland story began with a quote from my taxi driver.

43:40
What is a good response when a person tells you something and then says: that was off the record?

46:44
Can you talk about how much “cleaning up” is ok when using interview quotes?

46:48
What about the person who uses poor grammar? If you correct it, it's not an "honest" quote, but if you use it verbatim you may sound patronizing?

49:23
I’ve never had any person upset with me for fixing poor grammar. No one wants to sound silly. A travel story isn’t a hard news story about nuclear proliferation.

58:57
Would you use ANY info from the accused rapist?

01:02:55
How much do you fact check info you get from interviews.

01:04:59
Tape-a-call is an app to record phone calls.

01:12:15

01:13:01
I once had such a look of disbelief on my face that the chairman of GM raised his fingers and said, "Boy Scouts' honor"

01:13:05
Thank you Chris!
